Mending Hearts in Prayer: Healing a Broken Relationship
Mending Hearts in Prayer: Healing a Broken Relationship
“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” – Matthew 6:14-15
The Pain of a Broken Relationship
One of the most challenging experiences that we may go through as human beings is a broken relationship. Whether it is a romantic relationship or any other kind of relationship, the pain and hurt can be overwhelming. Sometimes relationships can end abruptly with harsh words spoken that cut deep into our hearts leaving us feeling angry, alone and abandoned.
There are various sources of broken relationships; some are due to misunderstandings while others may be caused by betrayal. The truth is that regardless of how it happens, mending relationships takes hard work and forgiveness.
The Power Of Forgiveness
“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” – Colossians 3:13
The above bible verse emphasizes on “Forgive as the Lord forgave us”. Forgiveness is critical for healing any broken relationship because without it we cannot move forward nor experience real peace within our hearts or minds.
- To achieve forgiveness in prayer:
- We first need to accept that what happened was wrong;
- We then have to repent sincerely for whatever part we played;
- Show willingness to make amends which calls for humility.
A Unique Prayer For Mending Broken Relationships
Dear Lord,
Today I come to you with a heavy heart, feeling broken and shattered from what has happened. My relationship seems to be at the end, and I’m not sure I have the strength or courage to make it right again. However, in your word Lord, (Ephesians 6:10) we are reminded that “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”
Lord Jesus Christ,
I ask for discernment as I look at my role in this broken relationship. If there is anything that I’m responsible for causing this estrangement between myself and whoever it is that hurt me/whom I may have hurt unintentionally – please reveal those instances to me as we pray.
I release all my anger, resentment and frustration; help me forgive whomever may have caused bad feelings between us. Help me find a way to mend our relationship because your word says (Matthew 18:19) “Again truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for; it will be done.”
In the name of Jesus Christ our saviour,
Amen!
