Catholics finding peace: Prayer against anxiety, worry, and fear

The Reality of Anxiety, Worry, and Fear

Anxiety, worry, and fear are all too familiar experiences for most people. Whether it’s a new job interview or a concerning medical diagnosis – anxiety can feel overwhelming. Worry can keep us up at night as we fret over our future or the well-being of loved ones. And fear can cause us to avoid new experiences or withdraw from relationships.

Even though these emotions are part of being human, they don’t have to control us. As Catholics, we believe that peace is possible through prayer and trust in God’s plan for our lives.

A Prayer against Anxiety

Lord Jesus Christ,

You said to your disciples: “Do not be anxious about your life; what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body; what you will wear.” (Matthew 6:25)

But so often we find ourselves weighed down by worries – be they big or small – and anxiety takes hold of our hearts.

Lord Jesus Christ,

We ask today that You would release us from this burden. We cry out for Your help in breaking free from the grip of anxious thoughts.

We know that in You all things hold together (Colossians 1:17) and so we entrust every concern into Your loving care.

Please grant us Your grace as we learn to trust You more fully with every aspect of our lives.

Amen.

Receiving Peace through Trusting God’s Word

Prayer is an essential part of receiving peace when faced with anxiety, worry or fear – it opens the door for God’s love to come in powerfully into our lives – filling us with security that only He can provide . A large part too is trusting on his promises found within his Word.

Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us that:

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

Let’s trust in these words today – speaking them outloud as an act of committment to God:

“Dear Lord,

I give You my worries – hiding nothing from You anymore.

Take control over each situation as I trust in Your goodness – knowing deep within me that You hold every detail of my life together.

And as I pray with a grateful heart,I let go of all the worries heavy on my heart ; embracing Your love fully and experiencing the unique sense of peace only YOu provide!

Thank You Lord!

Amen.”

Conclusion

Though anxiety, worry or fear may be acquainted friends that visit us from time to time – we can always find comfort knowing…God is always near…! By remembering scriptural promises like Philippians 4:6-7 & trusting them wholeheartedly ,by making prayer a daily habit; and acknowledging our dependence upon Him to resolve these challenges for us..we begin “finding” peace amidst what would have seemed impossible circumstances previously!

May this prayer stand till eternity, and its power bring healing to someone’s soul…..Amen
