In Philippians chapter 4 verse 6-7 Paul encourages us saying, “Do not be anxious about anything but in every situation by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds.” The scripture tells us that we don’t have to be anxious about anything because the peace of God will guard our hearts. But how do we access this peace? By prayer! Prayer has been proven to reduce stress levels significantly even among non-believers because prayer helps calm anxious thoughts as well as bring an inner sense of calmness and stillness.

I feel overwhelmed by all that’s happening around me – the pandemic, wars, an unstable economy and societal unrest. I have been dealing with feelings of anxiety and fear that are starting to take over my thoughts and emotions. But Lord, I believe in the power of prayer, the peace-maker that calms the stormy seas of our hearts. Your word says we should come to you with thanksgiving no matter what situation we’re in. Today I thank you for your steadfast love towards us even when our faith is wavering. I pray for a calm heart that’s not swayed by external circumstances but rooted deeply in your love.
