As believers, it is crucial that we abide in Christ. To abide means to remain or stay rooted in something. In John 15:4-5, Jesus says, “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless your remain the me. Yes I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain are in me, and I am them will produce much fruit.

This fruit that Jesus speaks of could mean several things- fruits of good works (Ephesians 2:10), fruits of character (Galatians 5:22-23), fruits of souls saved into eternity (Proverbs 11:30) etc., but more importantly he emphasizes that without abiding or remaining with Him we can’t accomplish anything on our own.

Prayer plays a huge role to help us abide with Christ!. When we pray we grow nearer to God because He desires us to communicate with Him as our loving Father,

“This is confidence which we have before him, that if what ask according to his will he hears us” – 1 John 5:14

This verse assures us that through prayer God listens! What’s even more heartening happens when our requests aligns with His plans for our lives meaning he answers then speedily.

Dear God, Thank you so much for enabling us to abide in You. Please guide us to a consistent relationship with You where we are assured that our prayers align with your will as we trust in you more each day. Most of all, grant us the grace never to stray away from Your ‘vine’ but hold on faithfully until the end. We pray all these through Christ who strengthens and made provision for everything, Amen.
